The Vibe: The “sweet spot” school—10,000 students, zero teaching assistants (TAs), and a highly vibrant, quirky student life culture.

The Vibe: The “sweet spot” school—10,000 students, zero teaching assistants (TAs), and a highly vibrant, quirky student life culture.
The Faculty Rule: Professors are here to teach. With a 14:1 ratio, there are absolutely no TAs leading classes.
Campus Life Highlights: Home to D1 athletics, Greek life (including 8 of the Divine Nine), and an Innovation Campus with dedicated engineering lab space.
The Battleship Tradition: Students literally rent canoes and play “Battleship” in the campus pool—a tradition so massively popular that they had to build an observation deck for spectators. [The pool was being renovated when we visited, so we couldn’t get a shot of this fabulous campus pastime.]
Unique Majors: Home to the state’s only Insurance & Risk Management degree, offering direct pipelines and internships to corporate titans like Walmart and Acxiom.
Honors College Model: Described as “Ivy League education at a basement bottom price,” accessible to everyone from suburban kids to local dairy farmers. Broken into interdisciplinary and disciplinary tracks.
Admissions & Money:
Test-optional for anyone with a 3.0+ GPA.
All institutional scholarships are strictly GPA-based—no additional application required. A 4.0 secures $6,500/year; a 3.75 + Honors College acceptance bumps it to $10,500/year.
Border-state students receive in-state tuition pricing as long as they live on campus.
