Admissions & Financial Strategy
Rolling Admissions: App opens August 1 (submitting early directly correlates with housing priority).
Test Scores: Highly encouraged. They can never hurt your chances, only help. Out-of-state students can receive great automatic merit-based waivers of up to $45,000 sent out in October.
GPA Conversion: They don’t recalculate your GPA—they simply convert and encourage an overall weighted GPA.
Veteran Perk: 100% of the non-resident portion of tuition is waived for veterans and their dependents ($18,991 value).
Honors College: Fast-tracked, expedited application review for anyone with a 31 ACT or 3.9 GPA.

Academic College Deep-Dives
College of Agriculture: Covers traditional farming but expands massively into Human Development, Family Science, and Fashion Design/Merchandising. Their motto: “If you want to feed, clothe, or care for the world, there’s something here.” Features 2 full farms and an Undergraduate Research Scholars program.
Architecture, Art, & Design: Studio-based, hands-on, and highly selective. The 5-year Architecture degree has a secondary application process for licensing. They host a week-long Architecture Camp in June ($700 room/board) to help high schoolers build portfolios. 5th-year students spend their final year studying in Rome.
Arts & Sciences: Huge on experiential learning, including a highly respected professional Broadcast Meteorology track.
Healthcare Pathways: Features a dedicated resources center boasting a higher-than-national-average placement rate into medical and dental schools.
College of Business: 9 majors. Features PGA Golf Management, International Business (a 5-year program with mandatory language study and working/studying abroad), and a Strategic Finance Lab where students manage actual stock money.
College of Engineering: Engineering makes up 20% of the student body and 50% of the Honors College. It is an absolute powerhouse. Features an intensive ESL + Business project management tract.
Cybersecurity & Tech: Holds all 3 premier certifications for computer science. They are the 4th ranked program in the nation and the first to launch an AI major in the SEC.
Nuclear & Aerospace: Developing a Nuclear Engineering major alongside strong ties to the Navy’s nuclear propulsion candidate school. Aerospace engineering has tight, direct relationships with NASA and an FAA-certified airspace.
Statistic to know: 60% of students graduate with a co-op or internship under their belt.
College of Forest Resources: Manages 32,000 acres of land. Major focus areas include Gulf biodiversity, marine fisheries (partnerships with the MS Aquarium), timber production, wildlife law enforcement (game wardens), and endangered species management. Fun fact: Mississippi is the #1 catfish producer in the nation.
College of Veterinary Medicine: Offers both a traditional competitive Vet School track and a unique 4-year BS program for veterinary technology (think nursing, emergency medicine, or pharmaceutical sales for animals). Boasts an incredible 1:8 animal lab student-to-teacher ratio and an 89% immediate job placement rate.
High School Direct Admit Track: Requires a 3.6 GPA and 27 ACT. They also host an intensive 4-week overnight Vet Camp ($750).
